I Have a Rendezvous with Death - TTBB Voices, unaccompanied.

Words by Alan Seeger (1888-1916).

Music by Rory Behrens (b. 1982)

This is perhaps THE most famous example of the "war poems" of World War One. Alan Seeger was one of many Americans who served in the French Foreign Legion, prior to the United States' official entry into the war. The poem was prophetic as Seeger did not live to see the armistice. The poem echoes the pomp of being swept up in patriotic fervor, the flashes of memory of a gentler time and place, and the understanding of what's to come, for better or worse.
